Automatic Decision Support System for Crowd Estimation
and Management in Masjid-e-Haram (ADCEM)

The ADCEM is an exhilarating Research Project that was proposed to provide better solutions to manage and estimate crowd in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah, KSA.

The ADCEM is fully supported by the Center of Research Excellence in Hajj and Omrah, HajjCoRE.

We believe that normally uneven crowding occurs in the Mosque due to tendency of people entering in the nearest possible entry points and looking at 800 cameras of Haram requires huge amount of manpower. Hence, an automatic decision support system is required that can guide the security staff and public to minimize the crowding of people.

The proposed decision support system will analyze the video images from either visual cameras or thermal imaging cameras or both and automatically spot the problems of crowding and issues warning to the security staff to concentrate on particular area.

In ADCEM, people entering and going out of the doors will also be counted so that total estimate of people inside the mosque can be provided online to the security staff.

ADCEM estimates the information of crowd flow in the mosque that can help to observe the spots where crowd become stationary due to over-crowding.

Research Awards

  • ICTRNF Research Grant

    We recently won a research grant of 17.5 Million from ICT Fund to create a commercial medical application for Andrology Clinics. Work has started and the application prototype is already used in clinics in University of Cambridge, Oxford, Liverpool, Leeds and Nottingham (UK)

  • HEC Research Grant

    We are awarded 6 million rupees to study Morphology and abnormalities in Andrology samples for Humans. This grant will commence from September 2013 and will result in a medical tool as well.

  • 2nd & 3rd Place in ICTCOMPPEC 2011

    We Won two consecutive positions for our published research projects in this national and prestigious event.
